Winter storm warning Jan. 4-6

The National Weather Service has updated its forecast for the Rolla area from a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning from 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6. Sleet, thick ice accumulation, 2-6 inches of snow and low temperatures are predicted.

Doug Roberts, chief of University Police, offers the following tips:

  • Consider staying off the roads this weekend.
  • Unhook garden hoses from your outdoor spigots and wrap the spigots with a towel.
  • Leave a faucet dripping at night for the next several days to keep pipes from freezing over.

A local warming center will be available at Crossroads Church, located at 708 N. Main Street, overnight from Sunday, Jan. 5, to Thursday, Jan. 9.
