Missouri S&T will resume normal operations tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 20).
While crews have been working diligently to address conditions, please be aware that there are still snow-covered areas around campus, including some sidewalks and parking lots. Exercise caution when traveling to, from and on campus to ensure your safety.
Temperatures are expected to be near 0 degrees — please dress for cooler building temperatures because some classrooms, offices and laboratories may not reach their normal temperatures based on the increased traffic and extreme cold conditions.
Doug Roberts, chief of University Police, offers the following tips from Missouri.gov:
- Dress warmly with several layers of loose-fitting clothing, a hat, a scarf or mask to cover your face and mouth, mittens or gloves, a water-resistant coat and boots.
- Allow extra travel time and expect delays.
- Reduce your speed and increase following distance. Drive based on conditions, not the posted speed limit.
- Place an ice scraper, battery booster cables, blankets, extra coats, gloves, water, non-perishable food, flashlight, and a bag of sand or cat litter in your trunk.
- Keep your gas tank at least half full.
- Travel with a fully charged cell phone. Park your vehicle before calling if you need help. Dialing *55 on a cell phone connects you to the closest Missouri State Highway Patrol headquarters.
- Understand that four-wheel-drive vehicles may provide extra traction to get a vehicle moving in snow, but they are not better at braking or handling turns.
