Police respond to report of fire at McNutt Hall; building reopened

University Police and Rolla Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a fire at McNutt Hall at approximately 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 20). Individuals evacuated the building due to heavy smoke.

The fire was extinguished quickly. There were no injuries and there is no danger to the campus or Rolla community. The fire was caused by a tool breaking in the building’s foundry.

The building has reopened; however, the north hallway near Rooms 233, 241, 244 and 248 in McNutt Hall will be closed for the remainder of today and this evening.
