Severe winter weather conditions are possible for the Rolla area overnight and continuing throughout the day Thursday, Feb. 17, but currently there are no plans to transition to remote operations. Employees and students are expected to exercise judgment when deciding whether it is safe to travel. Each individual’s circumstance will be different; therefore, it’s important that instructors and supervisors facilitate conversations with their students and employees to determine what options exist for their teams or classes in the event they cannot make it to campus or need to leave campus early.
Whenever possible, Missouri S&T will stay open for business and on-campus instructional activities during severe winter weather and will notify the S&T community to any changes to operations as far in advance as possible to assist with planning. In the event Missouri S&T needs to transition to remote learning and working because of the weather, all students, faculty and staff should start preparing now for the possibility of a weather-related change in operations.
If there is a change in campus status due to severe weather, the university will:
- Issue a text message to all registered cellphone numbers and an email to the campus community. A text message is the fastest way to receive alerts about emergencies and campus closings. Sign up for S&T alerts.
- Post information to the S&T Alert website.
- Post information to S&T’s social media channels.
- Inform local media outlets.
- Strive to provide campus status by 6 a.m. on weather-affected weekdays.
